The Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC) at Akbari Begum College of Education has been established to address issues related to marginalization and exclusion of minority and underrepresented groups. These include individuals from diverse backgrounds based on caste, creed, religion, language, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and disability among students, faculty, and staff.
The EOC also actively works towards promoting equality through anti-discrimination policies, grievance redressal mechanisms, and sensitization programmes that foster inclusivity within the college community.

The Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC) of Akbari Begum College of Education is committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable environment within the institution. Its objectives and responsibilities include:
Promoting Equality:
To promote equality among students, faculty, and staff from all sections of society.
Preventing Discrimination and Harassment:
To prevent and address any form of discrimination or harassment by prohibiting such practices, implementing preventive and protective measures, and recommending disciplinary actions against those found involved.
Safeguarding Interests:
To safeguard the interests of all members of the college community, without prejudice to their caste, creed, religion, language, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or disability (both mental and physical).
Orientation and Sensitization Programmes:
To conduct mandatory orientation and sensitization programmes for students to promote awareness, inclusivity, and mutual respect within the campus.
Integration in Student Orientation:
To ensure that sensitization sessions are mandatorily included as part of the orientation programme for all newly admitted students each academic year.
Faculty and Staff Orientation:
Beginning from the academic year 2025–26 (commencing July 2025), the EOC shall also organize similar orientation and sensitization programmes for faculty and staff to strengthen the culture of equality and inclusivity across the institution.
Any member of the Akbari Begum College of Education community — including students, faculty, and staff — may report a complaint by writing to the official EOC email ID ([insert Gmail address]).
Upon receiving a complaint, the Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC) shall conduct a preliminary inquiry and determine, within 10 days, the appropriate course of follow-up action, ensuring that due process is observed throughout the proceedings.
During this inquiry, the EOC shall take into consideration, among other factors, the nature of the complaint, the individuals involved, and the context of the incident, before recommending an appropriate action.
Following the preliminary inquiry, the EOC may make one or more of the following recommendations:
(a) Refer the matter to counseling, mediation, or negotiation to seek an amicable resolution;
(b) In the case of a student respondent, refer the matter to the competent committee constituted under the existing regulations of the College, such as:
the Disciplinary Matters Advisory Review and Investigation Committee,
the Sexual Harassment Inquiry Committee,
the Residence Life Disciplinary Committee, or
the Anti-Ragging Squad,
for further inquiry and disciplinary action, as deemed appropriate;
(c) In the case of a faculty or staff respondent, request the Registrar to nominate a third member to the EOC, thereby constituting a formal Inquiry Committee. This committee shall be empowered to take all necessary measures to uphold discipline among the employees of the College and to recommend or implement disciplinary actions, as deemed necessary, pursuant to Clause 5(xii) of the applicable national regulations.
